What is She Taking???

Good Morning My Sweet Friends!

Today we are going to be talking about a very popular topic: supplements.

I get a LOT of questions about what I take or what you should take or if they are really necessary at all. Well, today I am going to answer all of that.

Point number 1: Supplements are NOT necessary.

What? Then how come its a multi-billion dollar industry?

Because people want quick fixes and we have become a nation hooked on popping a pill for everything.

Here's the thing, you can get the body of your dreams without a single supplement. But regardless if you are taking anything or not, you will not get the body you want if your nutrition is sub par. Supplements only enhance what you are already doing. Always remember your nutrition is key. You can't put bad in and expect to get good out. That would be like not changing the oil in your car.

Point #2: Supplements are exactly that, supplements.

It is pretty difficult to get all your macro and micro nutrients from the typical "American Diet" that is why we are so deficient is so many areas. Even if you eat a "cave man" diet and super clean it is still difficult to meet your requirements 100%. That's why a multi-vitamin might be good idea. But you don't have to buy the most expensive one out there either.

Point #3: What I take.

Please note: you do not need all of these and/or most of these!

One A Day Women's Multi-vitamin: just your basic multi-vitamin :)

Finest Nutrition Fish Oil: 2 Soft Gels daily for pretty skin and hair plus healthy joints. Fish oil is a miraculous supplement. Look up its amazing benefits for yourself.

Blood Sugar Supplement (for my hypoglycemia): I am not going to give the specifics of what I take for this because I don't want people thinking they need it.

Source Naturals Essential Enzymes: This stuff is amazing to help break down foods that don't sit well with some, like lactose or gluten. A life saver for me.

Nature Made Biotin: I rotate this one out every once in a while. This is just another supplement for healthy hair, skin, and nails. But not at all necessary.

Optimum Nutrition's Glutamine: Like I have said before, Glutamine has a lot of benefits when it comes to muscle synthesis and recovery! Look it up, you will be amazed :)

Optimum Nutrition's Amino Energy or BCAAs: This guy also functions as my pre-workout but also helps with muscle recovery, synthesis and prevents breakdown.

And if we really want to get specific: Vega Chocolate Protein and Greens protein powder ha ha. Not really a true supplement in my eye's but some argue that it is. I like Vega because it is Vegan which means it is dairy-free. Dairy is pretty unfriendly with my tummy and I like to avoid it as much as possible. Soy also affects my skin so I like to stay away from soy-based proteins. This one is soy-free as well! And it tastes great :)

Point #4: But Brittney, what about a Fat Burner?

Ok, I am going to be completely honest. I gave a fat burner a try for 6 weeks and I hated the results. Fat burners are basically caffeine stimulants. Caffeine helps rev your metabolism, not drastically but it does a bit. Yet people act like a fat burner is a miracle drug that is going to make you drop 5 pounds over night. No, no, no. For me, I noticed I felt more dehydrated, I sweated profusely and I felt more tired. Everyone reacts different to different things but this is something I would highly recommend staying away from. Save your money.

Point #5: The importance of giving your body a break!

The farther you get into the fitness and nutrition industry you will learn that people do not take the same supplements all year around. In fact, with competitors the supplements they take during prep will be different then what they take it their off season. There are many reasons and theories as to why they do so. But the bottom line is it is good to give your body a break! You don't want to become dependent on what you are taking. I recommend taking breaks from supplements every 6 weeks for a week or so. Many coaches will also recommend the same thing.

That's it my loves! Have a wonderful week! I hope this helped you. Be sure to ask questions if you have any. Remember, you are stronger than you think, more beautiful than you know and are more loved than you can imagine.
