Where Have I Been??

Hi My Sweet Friends!
It is so good to be writing again. I know what you're thinking... where have you been Brittney!?
I know... I'm sorry! I went on vacation with my family for a long time. Let's just say, I was ready to come home. I missed my routine, my gym, my food, my home.
So where did I go?
Destin, Florida! And we drove there... from Texas. It's a 12 hour drive which I guess isn't too bad but I would so much rather fly.
But on another note, I had never been to Destin before let alone Florida, so I was super excited! I had heard all about crystal blue waters and white sandy beaches and was very happy to see that this was true. I was also told that Florida is A LOT like Texas except beachy which I found was also true. I had also heard the people there are really friendly, this was very true as well :) However, there are many differences between the beach there in comparison to California beaches, which is what I am used to.

For one, the water is WARM. Like bathwater warm. In California the water is ice cold all year around. Second, the swell is very mild. Just like other beaches, Destin had different colored flags to let you know the conditions of the water. Red meant a strong current. My brother and I joked that their red flag days were equal to Cali yellow flag days. Third, the sand is the most beautiful I have ever seen. You know when people talk about "nice snow" the "fluffy and soft kind" that is "almost like powder"? Now, think of powdery soft, white sand. The sand was so beautiful and unlike any I have ever seen before. I couldn't stop running my fingers through it. The water on the other hand is extremely blue and it is clear but when the swell grows stronger it stirs up the sand enough to make it not as crystal clear. Regardless, the water and beach itself is clean, very little seaweed and/or debris.
So what did we do?
Sunday
Well, we left on a Sunday morning and drove until it became dark. At that point we had reached Alabama and stopped for the night.
Monday
In the morning we enjoyed breakfast and had a few more hours to go. We reached Destin around 1 or 2pm but checkin wasn't until 4pm yet, we were able to check in early. Our place was gorgeous! Elegantly dressed in ocean blues and sandy tans- I wanted to live there. We unloaded our things and spent the afternoon at the beach which was yards away from our place. Afterwards, we went out to dinner at Olive Garden per my little brother's request.

Tuesday
Tuesday morning we woke up to storms which was a huge bummer. My mother and I decided to hit the gym on site which was pretty decent. We did a quick leg workout and some cardio. Then we grabbed a bite to eat and waited out the storm. Unfortunately, the water was closed to the public due to the strong currents yet my mother and I braved the beach where it rained off and on every half hour. We ended the night with a couple of movies: Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot and Max.

Wednesday
This morning we were able to enjoy coffee on our huge balcony with a view of the shore, absolutely gorgeous. My mother and I then took a morning walk along the beach where we met a nice couple from Nashville. We enjoyed the beach for the rest of the day even though the water was still closed to the public. Later, we went out for burgers at this awesome little place called Cheeseburger Paradise. It was honestly the best turkey burger I had ever had! The staff there were so kind and professional. I would highly recommend this place! (This was the first cheat meal I had had in weeks! I almost cried)

Thursday
A very similar morning to Wednesday with another walk along the beach. But this day we spotted a sting ray AND a baby black fin shark close to shore. This was very far down the shore from where we were swimming (praise God) but it was so cool to see them. We got another full beach day in this time the water was open to the public, yay! We ended the night at the Craft Bar at the Destin Commons which was such a cool place with an Austin Vibe and amazing food!

Friday
10am was check-out so we spent the morning packing up the car and drove the full 12 hours to back home.

And that was it my friends! There were some bums in the road through our trip with the weather and the water conditions being what they were but it was still a lot of fun. Unfortunately the last day we were there I started to get sick which was a main reason why I was ready to come home. But this trip was much needed. We hadn't had a family vacation with my mum in years, I hadn't been to the beach in a year, and I needed time to do absolutely nothing. But I am back and feel refreshed and pumped to be back on a routine. I am so excited to see my gym family Monday! It has been pretty difficult to be away from all of them.

Thank you for allowing me to have this week off from blogging. I am so happy to be back and have a lot of exciting content coming your way so stay tuned! :) Much love!
